Still here

Hello. Thank you for stopping by. I can’t believe it has been more than 2 weeks since my last post.

I really want to thank all of you who left a comment on my post about my ‘new’ chair. It was such a fun project to do, and then it is very nice to read the comments on it. So thank you very much!!

Last week I’ve been crocheting almost non-stop. Suddenly I had 3 orders for skirt guards, and because I don’t like to wait myself, when I’ve ordered something, I wanted to finish these as soon as possible.
This morning the last one was finished, and because I really like the colours the lady asked for, I’ll just show one more picture of skirt guards (I bet you get bored by now of all the skirt guards on my blog!)

Right before I got these orders I thought it was time to finally finish my ‘Colourful Quilt’. It had been lying on the shelves for far too long. So I did some quilting, but not too much yet.

Hopefully next time I can show you the whole quilt.

About what I did with all the fabrics on my table

Hello. I’m sorry that it took so long before I wrote this post. It’s not that I didn’t have anything to write about, I just couldn’t find the time to do it.

A few months ago, a new chair found its way into the living room. Not exactly a new chair, because it belonged to one of the boys. A lovely chair, and it’s great to sit in.

016

But as you can see; it’s GREY!!!

Not really my style. So I’ve been thinking what to do about that. Just a colourful pillow in it, wasn’t enough. A new cover in a bright colour was a good idea. But, ever since I read about Squint London, I was in love with their style. So this is what I wanted for this chair. The fabrics I showed in my previous post were for this chair.

Not that I had ever done any upholstery ever before; so it was quite a challenge.

And for whom thinks it is a bit too much, I made the seat 2-sided:

011

This was really a fun project and I’m very happy with the result. Now, instead of a dull, grey little chair, we have a real eye catcher in the room.

No more circles!

Hello! Can’t believe it’s already May. Time is just going so fast. Yesterday we celebrated Queens Day, and it was a lovely day, with lots of sun and quite warm. Today, cold and rain. But, that’s Holland!

Last week I got an order for a bike seat cover. It was so much fun to figure out how to make this cover, especially since the bike seat it is for, is much bigger than all the saddles we have.

004

I put it on the biggest bike seat we have, so you can get the idea.

On my table, something totally different.

013

A palette of matching and not matching colours. Sturdy fabrics. I wasn’t completely happy with the palette, so I added a few more:

018

Now it’s okay. I’m not going to tell what it is going to be, but it is something I’ve never done before.

Guess what? Coloured circles again!

Hello, how nice of you to stop by in my little corner of blogland. It looks like it is going to be a beautiful day around here. The sun is shining abundantly, and temperature is going up fast. I had a scarf around my neck, walking with Fleur just now, but that was already to warm. So maybe, finally Spring will find its way.

My back is almost back to normal, although I’m still a bit cautious with what I do.

In my last post I showed you the piece with squares I made. I added one more row and attached both sides to make kind of a cylinder.

Made some extra rows:

Can you already guess what it’s becoming? Maybe the next picture will help!

054

Okay, here it  is!

020

Another bag of course. I’m just so fond of bags, that I keep making them.

The size is perfect for going to the market, but it’s also great as a library bag, or a project bag.

003

The pattern is in my shop

Have a great weekend!

Again, colored circles

Hello, and thank you for all the good wishes for my back. Slowly things get better, and I’ve picked up my crochet hook again.

003

With lots of time on my hands I’m just trying to figure out some new ideas.

002

And of course I’m using a lot of different colors again.

Recently I’ve received a few blogging awards. Thank you very much ladies, for thinking of me. But at the moment it is too hard for me to sit at the computer for longer than a few minutes, so I will have to wait a bit before I can pay these compliments forward.

Something HUGE !!!

Hello! First of all I want to apologize for not being around for so long. I haven’t read any blog, but I haven’t stitched one stitch either.

The reason: lumbago. An awful pain in my lower back, which has kept me lying in bed for several days. Then when I got up, and carefully tried to get my life back, it happened again, so I’ve been out of it now for 10 days. Hopefully it will be over soon, because I’m starting to get very cranky by now.

But, I’ve got some good news too!

I guess every knitter has her (or his) own way of finding new techniques and tutorials. The web is a great source, and so are many very good reference books.  But these resources lack usually one big thing, and that’s the comparison of techniques.

Now I’ve found a book which is nothing less than a huge, and I really mean HUGE bible, where everything you want to know or want to learn is described in detail.

003

Indeed, the title: The Principles of Knitting, by June Hemmons Hiatt.

700 Pages filled with everything you want to know. And the big difference with other reference books, is that this is not a book for quick answers. There is so much information, that it is more like a study book. What about 34 pages only about casting-on?!!

006

Sometimes the author uses her own words or definition, instead of more commonly used words, but I don’t really mind, because it is always clear what she means.

Aside from being a yarn-addict, I’ve always been very fond of books. So when both are joined in such a phenomenal book, I’m very happy.

Something to prevent my fabrics from getting a texture I don’t want them to have

023

These beautiful roses were a present from my husband on our wedding anniversary. They are exactly the same color as the roses in my wedding bouquet  and there were 21 of them; one for each year. Isn’t that thoughtful?
They smell heavenly.

001

This is a small ironing board I bought a few years ago at IKEA. It’s quite handy, because it can be put on my sewing table and it’s perfect to iron all the little seams you have when making patchwork.

But; I don’t like the cover at all, and it’s very thin, so the grid can sometimes get into the fabric. So I was already used to using a towel or something of the kind to protect the fabric.

Every reason to make a new cover!

008

I started with 21/2 inch squares, made of Dutch fabrics.

009

Some more red, white and blue, a checkered binding and it’s finished!

018

For the back I used a thick, cotton fabric. In Dutch we say ‘molton’, but I don’t know the English word for it. This way the grid won’t get into my fabric anymore. I didn’t want to use a synthetic batting, because that could melt.

017

In the binding is a cord, which can be pulled together, to keep the cover in place.
